An exceptional and rare piece of Rolex watch making history. The "Air" series from Rolex came to pass as a result of Mr. Hans Wilsdorf's, the founder of Rolex, deep admiration for the pilots of the RAF, and the sacrifices made during WWII, and the fact that many had chosen to wear his watches. Rolex introduced a number of "Air" branded watches; "Air Giant", "Air King","Air Tiger" and this the "Air Lion". The "Air King" is perhaps the best known model in this series, and the only one that has stood the test of time, still featuring in the Rolex stable today. This particular example is one of the finest of this type of watch. It features a very rare pink gold applied Roman numeral dial with steel hands and a blued steel seconds hand. The dial is in exceptional condition, as is the watch in general. The stamped model number is 4647, and has serial number 555XXX, dating it circa 1947. The watch case is very sharp, is wound by a screw down Rolex Oyster crown. Inside the case is a Rolex manual wind 10-1/2"' Hunter Precision, 17 jewel with the Patented Superbalance. The case measures 31mm x 39mm.
